The beginnings of the Golden Anchor

The house was first mentioned in a document in 1665 in the first land register of the town of Hainburg. For more than two centuries, it was home to respected master leather craftsmen who filled the historic building with life.

In 1885, Joseph Brenner, an ancestor of our family, applied for a license to run a pub and catering business.
Shortly afterwards, his brother Johann Brenner took over the business and laid the foundations for today’s inn.

A family with passion

My grandfather Josef Brenner and his wife Maria ran the Goldener Anker from 1919 to 1972, transforming it into a popular restaurant with its first guest rooms and bringing a breath of fresh air to Hainburg’s hospitality.

My grandfather, who worked as a waiter in Paris for several years, brought not only fine French cuisine but also new inspiration to our kitchen.
To this day, you can admire his works of art in our Separée.

Cautious renewal with heart

After twenty years of leasing the Goldener Anker to various operators, I took it back into my own hands in 1992. With great attention to detail, supported by family and regional craftsmen, we have extended, renovated and modernized the house over the years.

Our aim was and is to preserve the historical soul of the building while offering the comfort of a 3-star superior hotel. Each renovation was carried out with the utmost care and respect for the architecture of the past.

Today at the Golden Anchor

Today I run the Goldener Anker together with a loyal and dedicated team. As a passionate landlady, it is a matter close to my heart to entertain our guests and give them a wonderful, relaxing time.

My team and I would be delighted to welcome you here soon – and to offer you an invigorating break in a place full of history, hospitality and warmth.
