The history of
the golden anchor

Your hostess will guide you through the history and the restaurant and hotel of the Golden Anchor.

The house was first mentioned in the town’s first land register in 1665. In the first 230 years of its existence, master leatherworkers were settled here.

The beginnings of
the golden anchor

In 1885, Joseph Brenner applied for the first time for a concession to serve beer and food. His brother Johann then took over the business.

On the picture Josef Brenner (my grandfather), he and his wife Maria were from 1914-1972 the innkeepers in the Golden Anchor. They converted the business into a restaurant with some guest rooms.

My grandfather worked some years as a waiter in Paris and brought beside his language knowledge, also the functional kitchen from France into the golden anchor. He was an artist, wrote poems and was a gifted draughtsman and painter. He immortalized many Hainburg personalities in caricatures. Today you can admire the drawings in the Separée.

The conversion and extension
of the golden anchor

1992 I took over the inn after 20 years of leasing to 6 different operators. In the years, the house was extended and renovated several times. With a lot of love for detail, we try to create an ambiance that does you good.

Together with family and artisans, we took with each renovation carefully consideration of the historical architecture without having to do without the comfort of a 3 * superior hotel.
